KITCHENS: You have two circuits on your kitchen countertop. Each circuit is GFI protected. If you have a gas cooktop or gas free-standing stove... your ignitor is protected by one of the GFI's on the kitchen countertop.
BATHROOMS: Your lights in your bathroom are protected by the GFI receptacle in that bathroom. If your lights go out don't panic! Hit the reset button the receptacle and the lights will come back on. Whirlpool tubs are protected by a GFI that should be located in the toilet room of the master bath. If you find the motor does not come on check the GFI and you may need to reset.
GARAGES: EVERY RECEPTACLE INCLUDING YOUR GARAGE DOOR OPENER is GFI protected. There will typically be one GFI that controls the other receptacles. There may be two GFI's and if so, and other regular receptacles stop working, try to reset the GFI.
SURGE PROTECTION: Each one of your electronic devices should be protected by a surge protector you install between the device and the receptacle in the wall. If so desired a qualified electrician can install a "Whole Home Surge Protection System"in your electric panel.
PHONE / TV JACKS - If we have run the phone and TV wiring in your home we have run homeruns to either the interface by the electric meter outside you house or to a smart box in a closet. We DO NOT daisy chain or use splitters on a new installation. The phone wire we install is CAT5 and the cable for TV we install is RG6.
SMOKE / CO DETECTORS - If we have installed the hard wired detectors in your new home they are also backed by a 9 volt battery or AA batteries. These batteries should be changed out every year for good maintenance. You should press the sync button on the last detector you have changed the battery in to re-sync the system.
LIGHT FIXTURES : When replacing any light bulb in your house please make sure you use the proper type and wattage light bulb. This is important to avoid a fire.
OTHER HELPFUL TIPS : Please see the "More" tab for articles on Arc Fault breakers, GFI receptacles, and static electricity.
